Building Leadership

Kathleen Cigich has served as principal of Lakewood Elementary since 2019. She is proud to lead a school community where staff, students and families work together to ensure a successful experience for every child. Lakewood is a community of learners committed to academic growth, and the staff is dedicated to providing personalized instruction in a supportive environment where students can thrive.

Before becoming principal, Cigich taught art at Lakewood from 2007 to 2013. She also worked in curriculum development and professional learning at the Blue Valley district office, gaining districtwide perspective and experience in instructional leadership.

Cigich earned her degree in art education from Emporia State University. She holds two master’s degrees—one in educational technology and another in educational administration.

Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Ben, and their son, Owen.
